Accelerometers for Critical Machinery Applications
These accelerometers are suitable for critical machinery applications where shell acceleration needs to be measured, such as gear mesh monitoring. The 330400 design meets the requirements for accelerometers as per the American Petroleum Institute Standard 670. It has an amplitude range of 50 g peak and a sensitivity of 100 mV/g. The 330425, in addition to offering a higher amplitude range (75 g peak) and 100 mV/g sensitivity, has the same performance characteristics as the 330400. The 330425 provides a higher amplitude range (75 g peak) and a sensitivity of 25 mV/g, with the rest of the features remaining the same.
Important Considerations:
If shell measurements are to be used for overall machine protection, the practicality of the measurement for each application should be considered. Most common machine faults (e.g., imbalance, misalignment) originate from the rotor, causing increased rotor vibration (or at least a change in vibration). For any shell measurement to effectively protect the entire machine, the rotor vibration must be faithfully transmitted to the bearing housing or machine casing, or more specifically, to the location where the sensor is mounted.
Additionally, great care should be taken during the actual sensor installation. Improper installation may degrade the sensor's performance or generate signals that do not accurately represent the machine's actual vibration. This issue is exacerbated when the output signal is integrated into a velocity signal. For high-quality measurements, the 330500 Velomitor* sensor should be used.
